Wee Hoong has over 18 years of working experience in audit and advisory services. Prior to joining BDO, Wee Hoong was formerly an Audit Director with KPMG in Malaysia up to May 2016, specialising in the financial services industry. During his tenure with KPMG, he spent 1.5 years in KPMG UK as Audit Manager and 4.5 years in KPMG UAE as Audit Senior Manager. He was the Head of Department in KPMG UAE’s Financial Services Division before returning to Malaysia. Besides financial services, he also deals with clients in other industries such as government and infrastructure, energy concessionaire, construction and property development as well as manufacturing, among others.
In addition to auditing public listed companies and multinational corporations, Wee Hoong has also been involved in special assignments, which includes the role of Reporting Accountant on clients’ initial public offering (IPO) and international fund raising exercise (equity and debts).
He is also actively involved in accounting advisory. Besides International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) conversion exercises, he has led many assignments in clients’ application of complex accounting standards such as IAS 39, Financial Instruments: Recognition and Measurement and IFRS 9, Financial Instruments. As part of accounting advisory, Wee Hoong regularly speaks at internal and external trainings and seminars on accounting standards.
