EXPERTISE SUMMARY

Bernard’s primary area of work is in the field of insolvency where he has over 20 years of experience. His involvement in receivership and liquidation administrations  includes taking over and managing companies and assets prior to a sale (especially in receiverships), developing and implementing sale strategies and executing the sales of various types of assets including properties, plant and equipment.

Prior to joining BDO in July 2015, Bernard was a Team Lead for the Special Asset Management (SAM) team of OCBC Malaysia. The SAM team was tasked with recovery of the bank’s medium to large corporates’ Non-Performing Loans and his role included managing his team’s recovery performance, putting in place appropriate remedial actions, implementing exit strategies and reporting to senior management on the SAM portfolio and/or key accounts. He was also involved in several internal committees which collaborated with Business Units to provide input so as to mitigate further deterioration of accounts which displayed signs of credit weakness.

Bernard was previously a Director in the Restructuring practice of KPMG for over 15 years where he was involved in various corporate and financial advisory engagements. His experience includes corporate/debt restructuring of various public listed companies, special administration under the Pengurusan Danaharta Nasional Berhad Act 1998, receiverships, liquidations and monitoring work. He was seconded to KPMG Melbourne, Australia for 18 months where he was involved in insolvency engagements, including as Voluntary Administrators.

His time with KPMG also included over 3 years in the Corporate Finance department where he undertook assignments involving mergers & acquisitions, share valuations and business & financial reviews.

Bernard is an approved liquidator and serves as a member of the Insolvency Practice Committees (IPC) of the Malaysian Institute of Accountant and Malaysian Institute of Certified Public Accountants. He is also a Chartered Global Management Accountant (CGMA) and Associate Chartered Management Accountant (ACMA) at CIMA.
